Bye bye, Yellowstone!

In total, we saw 9 buffalo, 1-2 elk, 1 moose, 0 bears, and 1 DOUBLE RAINBOW. So intense! I’m very excited that we saw so many buffalo. 😀 <3

We’re headed to Butte, MT for the night. We’re going to have to get up early in the morning for the last day of the trip.

Old Faithful

Yellowstone is beautiful. We have seen five buffalo so far – I am SO geeked! We got to Old Faithful with perfect timing. It erupted about two minutes after we arrived and the next eruption was predicted to be 1.5 hours later. We are now eating fish and chips at the Old Faithful lodge cafeteria and planning the rest of the day’s trip.

Beautiful scenery. 🙂

EDIT @ 2:15 mountain time: Uh oh. Looks like I don’t even have roaming data anymore. Guess I’ll have to wait to post this.

Night two – Gillette Wyoming

image

image

Today was eventful. We woke up in Minnesota and enjoyed the tasty homemade waffles at the Comfort Inn continental breakfast. Then we fueled up and hit the road. Before we knew it we were in South Dakota. Marie already posted about the world’s only corn palace and the famous Wall Drug, but she didn’t post about Deadwood South Dakota.

We stopped in Deadwood, which was a bit out of the way, because the first time we drove to Michigan from Seattle that’s where we stayed for the night. Why? Well, because Marie’s family loves Calamity Jane (the musical) and they introduced it to me before we hit the road. It takes place in Deadwood and is a complete riot.

Funny thing about that Wild Bill sign… every saloon on the street has a sign with the same claim. :-p

So tonight we made it to Gillette Wyoming. Another Comfort Inn means more homemade waffles for breakfast. Can’t wait for tommorow. The plan is to go adventuring (details coming later) and possibly make it to Eastern Washington for our next night.

Wall Drug – Wall, SD

image

image

There’s this place in South Dakota called Wall Drug and there are signs advertising it from hundreds of miles away. Nick and I failed to stop there when we first drove from Seattle to Detroit six years ago, but we finally gave in and went last summer. It’s pretty touristy, but they have free cold water and lots of things to look at.

Still no data available, so this may not even get posted until we get to the hotel tonight. :O

EDIT: Forgot to say that we found and adopted a lawn gnome at Wall Drug. 😀

World’s only corn palace – Mitchell, SD

image

image

We stopped in Mitchell, SD to see the world’s only corn palace. We were a little disappointed that the whole building wasn’t made of corn, but it was still a nice place to stretch our legs. All sorts of corn-related souvenirs there, including corn husk jelly. We decided to pass on the jelly lol.

We didn’t see any cows in Wisconsin, but we figured out that they were vacationing in Minnesota. Lots of cows there. 😛

In honor of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickock, we’re headed to Deadwood, SD right now. Nick and I stayed there when we first drove out to Michigan from Washington and we all wanted to stop again. 😛 Of course we’re  going to stop at Wall Drug along the way, though. 😉

Still planning on arriving on July 5, making it a 4-day trip. We’ll probably spend the night in Wyoming tonight.

(This was written at 1:15 central time. I’ll publish it as soon as data is available, which may not be for a while lol.)

Our tummies are full of waffles, English muffins, omelettes, and yogurt. Now we’re about to hit the road for day two. 🙂

Night One – Albert Lea Minnesota

image

Here’s a picture from the going away party at dads the other day. Haven’t had a chance to upload this until now.

We made it all the way to Minnesota today. Much better than we thought we’d do since we had to stop at O’hare, but our timing was so perfect we were barely there at all. We got there just as Grandma B. was leaving the terminal.
