On Saturday Amanda, Marie and I went to Emerald Downs. Carrie had some free passes from work, but couldn’t go because she had to work (lame right?). It was a ton of fun watching the races, and we even did a bit of gambling and bet on our favorite horses. We had beautiful weather and the atmosphere at the track was awesome. So much excitement with people cheering for their horses and then tearing up their tickets when they lost. It was like being in a movie at times.
It was odd; the few times we placed bets on the horses we thought would win, our horses came near dead last, but the times we didn’t bet, the horses we picked would win. The last race was particularly funny. The horse I favored (J.T. Rocks) was predicted to do poorly (based on a cheat sheet we were given) and it had the worst odds. Unfortunately I didn’t bet on that race! Had I, my $2 bet would have brought in nearly $40. One of coolest things about the track is the food. We got ourselves an order of garlic fries (pictured to the left) and enjoyed every last one.
Unfortunately none of us got rich betting on the ponies so I went to work today as scheduled. 😉 Sunday was quieter for us. We got a few things done around the apartment, did some Seattle neighborhood exploration (by car), and bought a few more essentials that we were still missing. We’re planning on a bus ride adventure downtown soon (Marie has her ORCA card now).
Glad you had a good time…and perfect weather for your day at the races! 🙂
Nice! Garlic fries are popular for a reason…
Check out the bus tunnel in downtown Seattle, it’s almost like being in the subway in some major city.
Martin: We’re heading out to richland on a couple of weeks and are planning to pack a lunch and stop at the tunnel and do a bit of walking then. The tunnel sounds like it’ll be pretty cool.
